Slaves in Pakistan
Thank you for your responses to the last few emails! And thank you for your prayers! You are a blessing!
This is our last email in this series.
The past two days, I told you about the incredible work that a few Catholics I have met have been doing for hundreds of children and families.
Today, I want to tell you about the work of Father Waqar and his goal to free one family a month from slavery.
Talking with him, I felt compelled to share his story with you.
Fr. Waqar is the director of St. Albert’s Catholic School in Gojra. The city of Gojra was burned down by a radical group a few years ago. Then, last year, a nearby town was burnt as well. This included homes, churches, priests’ residences and more.
In this area, families are taken and forced to work at a brick kiln, making bricks all day, day after day. The kids are forced to work too.
Father Waqar was telling me how the family is forced under a large debt to the landowner, so they can never leave. They have to work the rest of their lives to pay off this debt, then their kids take it on after them.
They are not able to afford a place to live, so they sleep in the brick yards.
They are not able to afford medical care, so if a women gets pregnant, all they can do is pray that she and the baby make it.
The live hand to mouth, any amount they get is only enough for food for that day.
There is no oversight, so abuse is common.
These families bring their kids to Fr. Waqar and beg him to let them go to the school, to get them out of the brick yards.
Fr. Waqar is not able to take in all the kids. He cannot afford food, medicine, and the needs for all of them. So he has a goal of freeing one family a month.
He is working hard to bring these kids and families hope.
I would like to share this. My friends’s 10 year old son put together a slideshow for all these people who are working to help the kids in Pakistan.
The video is part of a fundraiser.
We know not everyone is able to afford to give, so there is an option to Pray.
Please select “Pray” and write a prayer that we can send to these amazing people to let them know they are not alone.
Prayers and words of encouragement can go a long way.
You can ask your kids to write something too.
If you are able to donate to support them, it will be incredibly fruitful.
We chose this donation platform because there are no fees.
All funds go directly to the work of Fr. Waqar, Sr. Rita, and the Catholic couple working to bring education to kids of Pakistan to get them out of poverty and to give them hope for a future.
Even small amounts help. $5 buys a pair of shoes. $10 will provide one child with a school bag, pencils, notebooks and a water bottle.
All these kids are truly a blessing. I have taken the time to meet many of them over video chats. They prayed, sang, and even danced. Their hearts are filled with so much joy.
Thank you for reading through this series of emails.
As always, we continue to keep you and your families in our prayers. Every family is a blessing from God.
In Christ,
Trevor
